Constraints on food shipping.

With the Bioterrorism Act of 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has instituted strict regulations on the shipping of all food products. “Food” is defined as articles used for food or drink for man or other animals, chewing gum and materials used as components of any such article. If you plan to ship food products, we urge you to follow all FDA procedures.

To meet the FDA requirements outlined in the Bioterrorism Act, all transporters of food products must maintain certain records. As a result, DHL Global Mail customers who plan to ship food products must first identify those products to their Sales Representative.

When completing a Bill of Lading (BOL), customers shipping food products must check the “Food” box under “Contents.” Additionally, customers must provide an electronic manifest containing order detail for each food shipment along with the BOL.
